Inchcape Shipping Services Arctic Logistics Coordination provides full vessel agency attendance and ship husbandry services for all vessel types including; tankers, bulk, general cargo, cruise and military, as well as offshore and deployment projects.
Canada's Arctic makes up over 40% of our landmass and is home to more than 100,000 Canadians. It is an essential part of the country’s national identity and an area of growing importance internationally.
Ships must be designed, built and equipped to resist ice loads and to handle Arctic weather and operating conditions. Canadian construction standards for ice class ships are found in the Arctic Shipping Pollution Prevention Regulations. It is the responsibility of shipbuilders and owners to ensure that their ships are built to proper standards.
It is also the responsibility of owners and operators to ensure that they operate in a safe and environmentally sustainable way. Discharges to the water, emissions to the air, ballast water release and hull fouling all impact the environment. Complying with the acts, regulations, standards and guidelines and employing trained and experienced staff, will support safe operations. That’s where ISS Arctic Ops comes in.
Our experienced and dedicated staff can guide ship owners and charterers through the processes, as well as coordinate any requirements for ice pilotage, certificate issuances and port calls.
In order to transit the Canadian Arctic region, many certificates need to be obtained, including full chart/publication requirements, ice pilot coordination and winter load lines.
Please contact us for additional information on dock restrictions and water levels.
Although pilotage is not compulsory for the majority of Arctic ports, it is highly recommended and encouraged to employ an Ice Advisor for Arctic transits – ISS can of course coordinate this.
No tugs are available for the majority of Arctic Ports. Please contact us for any questions you may have.
Tidal Range and Flow:
There are many variables, therefore we highly suggest that you contact us with any questions or concerns you may have, where our ISS Arctic team can investigate and advise all possibilities.
