Inchcape Shipping Services Ciudad del Carmen was established in November 2008, as part of ISS’ expansion to provide full agency services throughout the Gulf Coast of Mexico.
Ciudad del Carmen is located at 18° 38' 45" N 91° 50' 8" W south west of Carmen Island, which stands in the Laguna de Términos, on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The city is nicknamed "The Pearl of the Gulf" and was devoted to fishing until the 1970s, when oil was discovered in the region. The city has since then grown and developed substantially.
Port Ciudad del Carmen has a navigational channel and 3 turning basins, with 17 docks along their way and PEMEX has its own multi purpose terminal.
From Ciudad del Carmen, offshore vessels and helicopters continuously travel back and forth to Cayo Arcas, which is an offshore terminal located at 20° 11' 58" N 91° 58' 59" W, which is fully controlled by PEMEX. There is also one FPSO (Floating, Productions, Storage and Offloading) vessel Yuum K’ak Naab (The Lord of the Seas in Mayan) and one FSO Takuntah, which are used to supply tanker vessels at sea.
