The Port of Morehead City is one of the deepest ports on the US East Coast, located just four miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The port handles both break-bulk and bulk cargo and is the second largest importer in the country for natural rubber. 


As a leading exporter of phosphate, Morehead City port features a dry-bulk facility with a 225,000 ton capacity warehouse, open dry-bulk storage and covered dry bulk facilities, with export conveyor systems capable of handling up to 1,000 tons an hour.


Morehead City port continues to improve its facilities to meet customer needs. A 177,000-square ft. warehouse is available to house high value commodities such as paper, steel, and lumber and features 29 ft. ceilings and easy access to ocean berths. The addition of the new warehouse, gives a total of over one million square ft. storage.

  • West turning basin dept of 35 ft. M.L.L.W. and 1,000 ft. radius. 

Located across the Newport River from the Port of Morehead City, Radio Island has 150 acres suitable for port industrial development, complete with municipal water and sewers and an NC-approved Environmental Impact Statement, for marine terminal development.


The port is strategically located within 700 miles of more than 70% of the industrial base of the United States. Access to Interstates 95 and 40 is available via U.S. Highways 70 and 17 and the daily train service from Norfolk Southern.
