National Manifestation in Belgium on January 13, 2025: Impact on Port Operations in the Port of Antwerp

On Monday, January 13, 2025, representative trade unions in Belgium have called on their members to participate in and support a national manifestation by going on strike.

The unions aim to express their concerns regarding potential reforms to pension schemes for civil servants and public services. Based on current information from various parties, we anticipate some disruptions in the Port of Antwerp on that day.

Specifically, services at the locks and tugboats operated by Port of Antwerp Bruges (POAB) may be affected. The operational leadership of POAB intends to provide maximum services based on availability; however, some impact on the locks and public tugboats can be expected.

Other public services, such as the Departments of Fleet and Pilotage, do not plan to participate in the national strike, according to our current information.

While the situation is not entirely clear at this moment, we advise you to consider this information when planning operations in the Port of Antwerp on January 13.

If we receive additional information that requires any updates to the above details, we will communicate those changes accordingly.
