Inchcape is proud to announce the opening of its new office in Portsmouth, UK. This strategic expansion further solidifies Inchcape’s commitment to broadening horizons and strengthening its presence in key locations around the globe.
As the only port agency with an office in Portsmouth, Inchcape is well-positioned to provide unmatched expertise and solutions to meet the unique needs of the maritime industry in the area. This new office is a testament to the trust and confidence our partners place in us.
One of the key factors driving the decision to open the new office is Portsmouth’s recent opening of a state-of-the-art cruise terminal. Designed to attract cruise lines to this beautiful part of the UK, the terminal is expected to bring significant growth to the region. With over 100 calls anticipated in 2024, the terminal has been built to accommodate this rising demand, making it a cutting-edge, multi-million pound facility.
Portsmouth International Port’s new cruise terminal is not just a symbol of progress but also exemplifies its commitment to sustainability. As the first carbon-neutral cruise terminal in the country, it minimises its environmental impact while providing a seamless experience for cruise passengers.
Grant Holmes, Inchcape’s VP Global Cruise & Superyacht Sector, holds a deep connection to Portsmouth. Having been born in the city and completed his shipbuilding apprenticeship at HMS Dockyard. Furthermore, Grant’s family lineage is rooted in Portsmouth’s rich history. His Great Grandparents were the first elected Lord Mayor and Lord Mayoress of the city from 1928 to 1930. The power message of the city, “Let Heavens Light Our Guide”, remains the slogan of Portsmouth even today and can be found around the city, even on lampposts in Southsea. Family tradition says he even influenced the logo of the city with the star and moon crescent. Lord Mayor James Edward Smith was also the first Coal Merchant of Portsmouth and the head of the region’s Salvation Army. This legacy was taught to all generations of Grant’s extended family, and many elders of the lineage today who knew James Edward Smith stated that Grant shares many of the characteristics, personality, values, and entrepreneurial spirit of his Great Grandfather.
Inchcape is proud to be part of Portsmouth’s growth and development, supporting the city in its pursuit of becoming a hub for international trade and tourism.
Jon Deverill, Port Manager and Dominic Axford, Senior Agency Operator, have taken the helm of this new office and are eagerly looking forward to serving customers in this historic port.
